PATCH WATCH

Advice changes when the game does.

The July 22 post-launch update changed Cancerous behavior and rebalanced late-game pressure. We flag affected pages instead of quietly leaving old recommendations live.

EXPLORE BY GOAL

One run, four questions

American players typically arrive with a job to do—not a category to browse. These hubs start with the outcome and lead into the relevant mechanics.

RUN PROGRESSION

Know what comes next.

Pathogenic moves from the Skin through increasingly dangerous body regions. Use the route guide for hazards and connect each region to the build or boss page that solves it.

QUICK ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions

Short, current answers for the questions players ask before buying, starting a run, or troubleshooting a setup.

01What platforms is Pathogenic available on?+

As of August 25, 2026, Pathogenic is available for Windows and macOS through Steam. No PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch version has been officially confirmed.

Check platform status
02Does Pathogenic have online multiplayer?+

Pathogenic officially supports local shared-screen co-op and Steam Remote Play Together. Native online multiplayer is not listed; community mods should be treated as unofficial and version-sensitive.

Set up co-op
03Does Pathogenic support controllers and Steam Deck?+

The Steam store lists controller support, and the game is playable on Steam Deck. If input is not detected, Steam Input and player-device order are the first settings to check.

Open controller setup
04What is the best build for a beginner?+

There is no guaranteed fixed build because each run offers different drops. Beginners should prioritize one connected damage chain, dependable movement, enough energy, and a defensive option before adding extra damage layers.

Compare build frameworks
05How does Cancerous work after the post-launch update?+

Cancerous now transfers to the newly cloned organelle. The original organelle loses the trait and its stat bonus, so only one Cancerous organelle remains unless another is found during the run.

See the current rule
06How do I reach the secret Brain route?+

The Brain is a hidden continuation beyond the normal Heart route. Prepare the route requirements before the Heart and make sure you are using the correct Brain input—the game has both a fixed entrance sequence and a run-specific lock.

Follow the Brain route
07Do Plasmid upgrades carry over between runs?+

Yes. Plasmid fragments are used for permanent progression between runs, with upgrade choices associated with individual Pathogens.

Read the Plasmids guide
08How long does Pathogenic take to beat?+

Pathogenic is a run-based roguelite, so time varies with player skill, unlocks, and build knowledge. A first clear, the secret route, and full achievement completion should be treated as separate goals rather than one fixed playtime.
